Outdoor Saunas

Saunas Meet The Great Outdoors
There’s nothing better than knowing that you have a place you can go to enjoy one of the world’s oldest forms of relaxation.

The outdoor sauna is just that: a sauna that is outdoors. It is usually a shelter in and of itself, but there are also outdoor saunas that are attached to the sides of homes. For a retreat from the everyday (both physically and mentally), the outdoor sauna is the perfect solution.

Outdoors saunas are most commonly found at cottages. They provide the perfect accessory to a deck, pool, spa, or all three. They are perfect for days when you just want to sit basking in the sun, enjoying your free time. The outdoor sauna is also a great stress reliever and could help you go back to the city with a clear frame of mind.

Sturdy Build
Outdoor saunas are built to withstand the elements. They are most commonly built of cedar for the wood’s resilience to wood rot and it expandable properties. You can get a pre-built outdoor sauna from most sauna retailers. The outdoor sauna will enhance any outdoor area. These pre-built units usually come with available roof packages (unassembled-wood plates, pre-fab rafters, nailers, facing, metal flashing, cedar shingles, ridge cap, and nails). Included are some additional upgrades to create the perfect sauna such as cedar bench skirts, a stainless steel heater, tinted glass as well as many other upgraded amenities. All you need to supply is the waterproof pad and an electrical source.

Proper Maintenance of an Outdoor Sauna
To make sure your sauna always looks its best, clean it often. Follow these tips to treat and maintain your outdoor sauna:

  • To keep the bench surfaces and floor clean, wipe them down with a clean rag or sponge dipped in a bucket of warm, soapy water.
  • Always use a mild detergent; strong soaps can damage or discolor the wood or possibly leave a residue that gives off harmful fumes.
  • If you have a tiled or cement floor, then use a mop with a mild soap mixture to clean the floors.
  • The rocks in your sauna will also need to be cleaned. Wait until they are cool before soaking them in warm, soapy water. Use a sponge to clean them off and then rinse them clean in water. Make sure the rocks are completely dry before you place them back in the heater trough.
  • While your rocks are soaking, clean out the heater trough of any foreign materials. If any of your rocks have broken, do not put them back in the trough. The grit they leave behind can damage the stainless steel.
  • A quality water seal may be used on exterior paneling for outdoor saunas only.
