Kitchen Cabinets

Obviously your kitchen cabinets are one of the prime functioning units in your kitchen design. They store food, eating utensils and appliances, among other things. That said, it doesn’t mean that form cannot follow function.

Great cabinets are one of the best ways to round out the look of your kitchen, no matter what design scheme you have implemented. Here we have cabinet suggestions for traditional, contemporary and French country kitchens.

Bear in mind, these are just guidelines and you can exercise as much creativity as you would like.

The Traditional Kitchen
These cabinets have more detail than most standard cabinets. You will want classic raised panels or ornate Victorian accents. You can choose from a variety of woods and finishes as along you keep things consistent. For an elegant kitchen cabinet look at wine dark cherry wood or warm oak for a warmer more comfortable feel.

You will also want to add, as many layers are possible. Moldings and trim are a great way to accomplish this. If you are going to paint your kitchen cabinets try and choose a light yellow or cream color. This will mimic the painting options that were used in the past.

The Contemporary Kitchen
The contemporary kitchen gives you some more options than the traditional. Essential contemporary cabinet can include any design that was popular following the Second World War.

Generally, this means few fills and an uncluttered look you will want clean sharp lines and lots of right angles. This is not a rule, but more of a guideline. Contemporary blends too many styles to really have rules. Traditional solid wood is often used in conjunction with glass, plastic and metal. This differs considerably from the traditional, which uses one or two materials only.

The French Country Kitchen
This is very similar to the traditional except for the fact that you should try a concentrate all of your cabinet in one place. In the old world there was a lot less room than in today’s American kitchen. Therefore storage was a prime concern. Keep this in mind and you’ll find that by economizing and maximizing your storage space you’ll have a lot more room for other stuff like decorations and lighting.
